Step by Step
Don’t miss the chance to join this hydrofoil tour of the Everglades from Miami. Florida’s capital, Miami, is approximately two hours’ drive from the largest subtropical nature reserve in the United States.
Dare to explore the Everglades, home to North America’s largest wetland. Here you’ll discover a multitude of unusual and wild animals that you’d only find in places like this: herons, American bitterns, alligators and ospreys, amongst others.
The Everglades National Park – a name that could be translated as ‘eternal swamps’ – was established in 1947. Owing to its rich natural environment and the wide variety of ecosystems within the area, UNESCO designated it a Biosphere Reserve and a World Heritage Site.
As well as its rich variety of flora and fauna, it also boasts a long indigenous history. The Mikasuki are the Native American tribe currently living here and have been the most significant in the area. During your journey, you’ll be able to see some of their settlements.
The most impressive aspect of this experience will be the endangered and rare animal species you’ll see in the Everglades. Some of these include:
- Short-tailed hawks
- Tick-eaters
- American flamingos
- Herons
- Ibis
- American tantals
- Otters
- Caribbean manatees
- Crocodiles and alligators
- Turtles
- Pumas
Notable plant species include oaks, red cherimoyas, wild flowers such as orchids, and the famous mangroves.
