Step by Step
The tour departs early from Belize City, where you are picked up in an air-conditioned vehicle and transferred to the jetty. As you board the speedboat, the captain gives a brief safety briefing and hands out life jackets. After about 30 minutes of cruising, the horizon leaves the urban coastline behind and the silhouette of Goff's Caye appears, a white sandy islet surrounded by the deep blue Caribbean Sea.
As soon as you set foot on the island, the snorkelling equipment (mask, snorkel and fins) is delivered ready for use. You will enter a shallow sandbank where elkhorn, brain and fan corals form an underwater garden. Underwater, you'll see parrotfish, angelfish and green turtles gliding gracefully by. Your guide points out the most emblematic species, explains the reef's ecosystem and reminds you of responsible practices to avoid harming marine life.
When you return to shore, you have free time to lie on the sand, take a dip or explore the perimeter of the cay on foot. The mid-morning snack includes fresh fruit, crackers and mineral water, ideal for recovering your energy. If you prefer, you can rent a paddleboard or simply contemplate the contrast of greens and turquoises that only the Caribbean could offer.
Before boarding again, the captain organises a group photo in front of the coral reef, an unforgettable souvenir. The return trip allows you to admire the coastline from the sea and, if the timetable allows it, to spot manta rays on the surface.
