Step by Step
Your adventure begins with a pick up from your hotel reception, airport or agreed point in Santa Maria. Your guide, identified by his badge and a yellow "Sal Experience" sign, will welcome you and check your equipment before setting off for the east of the island.
After about 25 minutes you will arrive at Shark Bay beach, where a natural breeding ground for lemon sharks (Negaprion brevirostris) has been established in shallow, crystal clear waters. These sand-coloured sharks, averaging 2.5 - 3 m in length, pose no danger to humans.
On the shore, the guide will show you with binoculars the movement of these creatures. If you wish, you can put on the water shoes or crocs provided and go into the water to swim with them, feeling their imposing presence up close.
Learn with your guide all about their biology, their role in the marine ecosystem and curiosities about their growth (up to 50 cm a year). Learn why this bay is essential for their reproduction and conservation.
At the end of the 40-60 minute dive and observation, you will return comfortably to your vehicle for the transfer back to your accommodation, taking with you photos and souvenirs of a totally safe and responsible experience.
