After a first half with few chances, Anthony Gordon put England ahead in the 55th minute by finishing off a cross from Morgan Rogers. England held onto their lead until the 85th minute, but Enzo Fernández equalised with a shot from outside the box and Lautaro Martínez completed the comeback with a header in added time.

The English side came close to reaching their first World Cup final since 1966, but Argentina’s two late goals completely turned the match on its head. Their final match of the tournament will be against France, who were defeated by Spain in the first semi-final.

France v England will decide third place at the 2026 World Cup. The match will take place on Saturday 18 July at Miami Stadium, also known as Hard Rock Stadium, in Miami Gardens, Florida.
