Step by Step
Start your adventure with a morning pick-up from your hotel, airport or residential address in Addis Ababa (include name in next step of booking) or Edna Mall. Aboard an air-conditioned vehicle, you'll travel first to Atkilt Tera, Ethiopia's largest fruit and vegetable market, where you'll discover exotic produce and spices that bring the local cuisine to life.
Next, you'll enter Merkato, Africa's largest open-air market, a maze of stalls filled with grains, vegetables and spices. There you'll meet a group of women who will teach you step-by-step the art of making injera, the spongy, tangy bread that accompanies every Ethiopian meal.
Afterwards, you will enjoy a coffee tasting at the Tomoca Café, the oldest in the city, where you will taste an espresso or a macchiato made with recipes dating back more than 50 years. Later, in the mountain village of Sululta, you will experience the complete Ethiopian coffee ceremony: from the washing of the beans to the live roasting and finally the tasting. You will also learn how tej (honey wine) is made and taste a cup.
To recharge your batteries, you will head to the Taitu Hotel, founded in 1905, where an Ethiopian buffet will offer you a variety of stews, vegetables and meats served on injera, along with rice and typical salads. Then celebrate the end of the tour with a honey wine tasting in a traditional setting.
