Step by Step

This free tour of Bordeaux in English or Spanish is the most comfortable and entertaining way to get to know the city for the first time. In just 2 hours of walking, you will discover why Bordeaux is a World Heritage Site and one of the most elegant cities in France, combining history, architecture, wine and local life. The tour is designed to offer a comprehensive, yet light-hearted, overview of the city's major landmarks without making the walk tiresome.

You will start from the Monument to the Girondins, on the immense Quinconces square, one of the most impressive urban spaces in Europe. From there, you will enter the heart of Bordeaux and, accompanied by your guide, you will see the Grand Théâtre, the Notre-Dame Church, the Passage Sarget, the Golden Triangle and the Dijeaux Gate, while listening to stories about the golden age of the wine trade, the English presence and the recent transformation of the city.

The tour continues to Saint-André Cathedral, one of France's great Gothic temples, and then down the bustling Rue Sainte-Catherine, famous for being one of the longest pedestrian shopping streets in Europe. Among anecdotes and curiosities, the guide will also tell you about the typical dessert of Bordeaux, why its wines are so prestigious and which famous Spanish painter is linked to the city.

The final part of the tour takes you through charming areas such as the Porte Cailhau and the Sainte-Pierre Church, until you reach the iconic Place de la Bourse and the Mirror of Water, where the group bids farewell. It's the perfect place to take photos and stay a while longer to enjoy the atmosphere. At the end of the tour, your guide will give you personalised tips on what to see in and around Bordeaux, vineyard tours, lesser-known neighbourhoods and your favourite bars and restaurants.

As this is a free tour, there is no fixed price: at the end of the tour you decide the tip according to your satisfaction, with a typical contribution of around €12-15 per person. The tour runs every day, rain, snow or shine, is wheelchair friendly, pet friendly and is designed to make couples, families and solo travellers feel comfortable from the very first minute.
