Step by Step
This night-time cruise on the Danube in Budapest is perfect for admiring the illuminated monuments reflected in the river. The tour lasts approximately one hour and includes an audio guide and a drink of your choice from champagne, wine, beer, soft drinks or water.
There are several boats available and, as a general rule, they depart between 6.00 pm and 10.00 pm. Please note that timetables may vary on public holidays or depending on the season. Once on board, you can sit back and enjoy the following buildings and monuments:
- Buda Castle – An impressive structure adorned with a bronze bird of prey representing the Turul, the symbol of the Magyar tribes.
- Elisabeth Bridge – Rebuilt after the Second World War, it connects Gellért Hill with Pest. It is dedicated to the famous Princess Sissi.
- Gellért Hill – A rocky outcrop home to the Habsburg military citadel and the Liberty Monument. It is one of the best vantage points in Budapest.
- Freedom Bridge – An Art Nouveau gem. It is decorated with turuls, the mythological birds of Hungarian tradition.
- University of Technology and Economics – Founded in 1782, it remains a highly prestigious university.
- Bálna – A multi-purpose centre on the banks of the Danube. It is characterised by its undulating roof, which makes it resemble a whale.
- Chain Bridge – The cast-iron and stone structure is adorned with lions at the base of the piers, created by the sculptor János Marschalkó.
- Matthias Church – From the river, you can see its illuminated Gothic spires. It is dedicated to the Hungarian King Matthias Corvinus, who celebrated both his weddings here.
- Parliament – Opened in the early 20th century, it is the true symbol of the Hungarian capital. The architect, Imre Steindl, chose a neo-Gothic style inspired by the Houses of Parliament in London.
- Margaret Bridge – It was built in the 19th century to a design by Emile Gouin, a French engineer from the Eiffel company. It provides access to the island of the same name.
The glass roof and large windows offer spectacular views. The boat also provides free Wi-Fi.
