Experience Highlights

Embark on a 1-hour ATV adventure along the spectacular Jökulsá glacial river at Fjöllum in northeast Iceland. Fasten your helmet, gloves and waterproof clothing provided to keep you dry as you explore this unique landscape. The tour is conducted entirely in English and is designed for beginners, so no previous quad biking experience is necessary.

The meeting point is Ásbyrgi, 671, Iceland, 1.5 km from the junction to Dettifoss, where you will see our bikes parked. Choose a time and arrive 10 minutes early: you will ride a quad bike with a local guide who will explain the geological formation of the canyon, the volcano and the glaciers in the area.

This tour covers much more distance than you could on foot and offers fantastic photo opportunities of waterfalls, icy landscapes and, if you're lucky, seal colonies in the lower reaches of the river.

  • Book your quad bike and discover Iceland's longest river.
  • Enjoy waterfalls, glaciers and wildlife in complete safety.
  • Get behind the wheel of an ATV suitable for beginners and experience the thrill.

Step by Step

Start your adventure at Ásbyrgi, a quiet meeting point by the junction to Dettifoss, where your guide will be waiting for you with the ATVs ready and safety equipment: helmet, gloves and waterproof clothing. After a brief introduction, you'll board the ATV to start the ride along the banks of the Jökulsá á Fjöllum River, Iceland's longest river.

As you go, your guide will tell you about the fascinating geological history of the area: how glaciers and volcanic eruptions between 1972 and 1976 shaped the canyon and created impressive lakes. You will see with your own eyes the petrified lava channels and glacial sediments that shape the river bed.

Halfway along the way, you will stop for a close-up view of secondary waterfalls that feed the river before Dettifoss. Here, the force of the water and the icy wind create a magical atmosphere, perfect for unique photographs.

In the lower part of the river, next to the lakes formed by the ancient lava flow, seals are often spotted resting on crags. Your guide has a telescope so you can observe them without disturbing them and share information about the local wildlife.

The return journey will take you on less travelled trails, where you will feel the quad bike manoeuvre with ease over volcanic soil and pebbles. At the end of the hour's drive, you will say goodbye to your guide with a smile and have the rest of the day free to continue exploring Asbyrgi and the surrounding area.
