Step by Step
At the SAKA Museum, each room invites you to journey through the pillars of Balinese identity. Start with the Kasanga exhibition, where you will unravel the philosophy and rituals surrounding Nyepi, the "Day of Silence". You will learn the deeper meaning of this tradition and how it marks the beginning of a new annual cycle.
Next, delve into the UNESCO-recognised Subak exhibition, which reveals the ingenious water management system that has sustained Bali's farming communities for centuries. You'll see models, watch videos and trace the flow of water in an interactive landscape that celebrates cooperation with nature.
The third stop is the Panca Maha Bhuta exhibition, where you will discover the Balinese conception of cosmic harmony through the five elements: Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Akāsa (ether). Each element is presented in a sensory space that combines art, sound and projections to allow you to reflect on your own connection with the universe.
Don't miss the Knowledge Centre, which houses rare manuscripts, ceremonial objects and ancient photographs. Here you can browse through centuries-old books and view artefacts that reveal Bali's everyday wisdom.
Finally, relax in the landscaped areas of the museum and review your notes from the Museum Trail. Due to the cool atmosphere inside, we recommend you bring a light jacket.
