Step by Step

Discover the work of the painter Fra Angelico thanks to these tickets for the Museo di San Marco in Florence. This is a venue situated next to the Church of San Marco, where he spent virtually his entire life as a monk and produced the majority of his works, which are still preserved and on display today.

Fra Angelico was a Dominican monk who later became prior of the convent and decorated it in a style perfectly suited to the architecture of the chapter house, the cloister and the brothers’ cells on the first floor.

This museum, situated in the centre of Florence, offers visitors a perfectly preserved example of a 15th-century monastery, with a harmonious layout based on Brunelleschi’s innovations. Everything is designed to organise and simplify monastic life within its walls, both in its tranquil cloister and in the light-filled library, one of the finest Renaissance interiors.

The complex also houses a museum dedicated to the works of Fra Angelico, comprising frescoed interiors and panels on display in the great almshouse.

Another of the most famous works you’ll see is the Crucifixion, painted in the Chapter House. The 44 cells, which you can also visit, contain the famous Annunciation, the Three Marys at the Tomb, Noli me tangere and others.
