Step by Step

Explore the city of Milan at your own pace with this private tour. Accompanied by a professional guide, you’ll be shown around during this activity, which lasts around ninety minutes. You’ll learn about the history and visit some of the most beautiful spots in the whole of Italy, such as Piazza del Duomo.

Milan, situated in northern Italy, is the country’s second most populous city after Rome. It was a major political centre in antiquity and an important commercial and trading hub, becoming the capital of the Duchy of Milan, one of the greatest political, artistic and fashion powers of the Renaissance.

However, over time, it lost much of its political and cultural significance, though it regained its status as a major economic and political centre. Today, it is regarded as Italy’s industrial and financial capital, as well as one of the world’s fashion capitals.

During this walk, you’ll witness all of this history through its streets and buildings. Some of the points of interest you’ll pass by include:

  • Piazza del Duomo: this is the historic centre and home to the famous cathedral, known as the Milan Duomo, which tells a story of faith and art spanning more than six centuries.
  • Teatro alla Scala: La Scala is a famous opera house, which opened in Milan on 3 March 1778, where most of Italy’s great opera artists and many of the world’s finest singers have performed.
  • Castello Sforzesco: this is a medieval fortress built in the 15th century by Francesco Sforza, Duke of Milan. It was one of the largest citadels in Europe and today houses several of the city’s museums and art collections.

Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II: this is Italy’s oldest working shopping arcade and one of Milan’s main landmarks.

I thought the tour was short, it would be better if it lasted 120 or 150 minutes.

The guide told us where to go after the tour as we had no idea what to do in the city.
