Within the walls of the Capodimonte Gallery, hundreds of works by artists such as Caravaggio, Titian, Botticelli and Raphael are preserved. It is a veritable palace divided into several rooms, the main ones of which are listed below:
- Farnese Collection – Works that belonged to Charles of Bourbon, King of Naples. Some of the most famous paintings include ‘The Misanthrope’ (Pieter Brueghel the Elder), ‘Hercules at the Crossroads’ (Annibale Carracci) and ‘Paul III with his Grandsons Alexander and Octavius Farnese’ (Titian)
- Galleria delle Porcellane – Tableware, candlesticks, crucifixes, ornaments and much more. All the objects were produced at the Royal Porcelain Factory of Capodimonte
- Avalos Collection – A collection of miniatures, weapons, Flemish landscapes and works by the great 17th-century painters
- Appartamento Reale – The residence where five kings of the Bourbon dynasty stayed. The main rooms are the Sala della Culla, the Salone delle Feste and the Salone Camuccini, though there are also more intimate areas. The bedroom is decorated with frescoes inspired by those of Pompeii and Herculaneum
- Manifesti Mele – A series of advertising posters produced between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They were originally displayed at the Magazzini Mele, the department stores of Belle Époque Naples
- Farnese and Bourbon Armoury – A collection tracing the history of the conflicts and the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. It includes swords, armour, mortars and much more. The most important piece is the pair of musket pistols made by Jean Baptiste La Roche
The cultural institution is surrounded by a large green space known as the Real Bosco. It was the Bourbons’ hunting ground and is considered one of the most beautiful parks in Italy. It is divided into four zones and covers an area of approximately 130 hectares.
Reviews
- DD.Magnificent exhibition.
- AA.One of the most spectacular museums I have visited by far. Although I expected a little more, I have to admit that the visit was very pleasant at all times. Highly recommended.
- DD.A beautiful place to visit.
- AA.A much more complete museum than I expected, although I wasn't entirely convinced by the visit. It was worth going and I recommend everyone to go at least once.
