Step by Step

With these pre-booked tickets, you’ll have the chance to visit Pompeii, famous for having been destroyed by the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in the year 79. The city’s ruins were discovered in the 18th century and are now one of the best-preserved archaeological sites on the planet.

Pompeii was buried under the ash of Vesuvius, which preserved its ruins and now allows us to gain an insight into what life was like in the city at the time of its destruction. You can visit houses, shops, statues, signs and public buildings, all of which are perfectly preserved. This will give you an insight into what life was like during the Roman Empire.

Some of the most significant archaeological remains preserved from the city are as follows:

  • The Forum of Pompeii: This formed the civic centre and the heart of commercial life in Pompeii. It was accessed through a large bronze gate, and carriages were not permitted inside
  • Temple of Jupiter: The temple was built in the 2nd century BC in honour of the Roman god Jupiter, the equivalent of the Greek god Zeus. It was severely damaged by the earthquake of 62 AD and was undergoing restoration at the time of the eruption of Vesuvius
  • Basilica: The Basilica of Pompeii was the seat of the administration of justice and, together with the Forum, was the city’s most important building
  • Temple of Apollo: This temple stoodwithin an area bounded by 48 columns and was dedicated to the Greek god Apollo, whose cult had been widespread in the region for centuries. Among other things, Apollo was known as the god of the Sun

A tour of a city that has remained intact since the 1st century, allowing you to wander its streets and discover the secrets and curiosities it holds.

The site is impressive for its size and the state of preservation of the buildings. I found the Forum of Pompeii particularly beautiful, with Mount Vesuvius ever-present in the background.

I really enjoyed it, although at times I would have liked to see more explanations on the site itself. Even so, Pompeii speaks for itself quite well.
