Step by Step

With this guided tour of the Arena Floor of the Colosseum and Roman Forum you will experience Ancient Rome beyond the typical photos from the outside. This is an experience designed for those who want to understand how the city was organised, where the big decisions were made and how the spectacle was experienced in the most famous amphitheatre in the world.

The first part of the tour takes place in the Roman Forum, the real nerve centre of ancient Rome. Walking among temples, triumphal arches and the remains of public buildings, your guide will explain how this space was the political, social and religious heart of the city. You will see, among other things, the area linked to the Vestal Virgins and you will understand why this valley was the scene where the daily life of the Empire was written.

From there you will continue to the Palatine Hill, a green and elevated area that tradition identifies as the birthplace of Rome. Over the centuries, it became the favourite residence of the elite and the emperors. From its belvederes you will enjoy panoramic views over the Forum and the Colosseum, while your guide helps you imagine palaces, gardens and banquets where today only monumental ruins remain.

The last part of the tour is dedicated to the Colosseum, the star of the tour. You will enter through the so-called gladiators' gate and go directly to the arena floor, an area restricted to a limited number of visitors. From there you can see the stands, the internal system of the amphitheatre and the dungeon area, where gladiators and animals awaited the moment to go on show. It is a unique perspective to understand the scale of the building and the intensity of the fights.

Throughout the experience, your live guide will accompany you with clear and entertaining explanations, supported by personal headsets so you won't miss any details, even when the area is very crowded. At the end of the tour, you will leave with a much more complete picture of Ancient Rome and how these three spaces - the Forum, Palatine Hill and Colosseum - were connected to each other in the life of the city.

The guided tour was quite informative, I loved the history behind the Roman Forum. Without a doubt, the Palatine Hill with its panoramic views was my favourite part.
