A lovely but somewhat demanding experience. Between finding the right clothes, downloading the audio guide and arriving early, it’s best to be well prepared.

The climb is a bit of a slog, but the reward is clear. The photos taken from the top turned out to be some of the best of the trip.

A different sort of tour inside the Vatican. It’s not just about going up for the sake of it; you also learnt quite a lot about the dome.

This tour is not recommended for people who suffer from claustrophobia.
The lift will take you up to the first level of the dome. To reach the top, you’ll need to climb a further 300 or so steps.
The tour may be subject to change due to weather conditions or liturgical events.
This activity is not accessible to wheelchair users.
