Experience Highlights

Combine sightseeing with fine dining and enjoy a luxury experience on a small-group tour of around 12 people. The tour is led by a local English-speaking guide, lasts approximately 3½ hours and departs from Piazza Farnese itself. Also, if you’re travelling with your family, bear in mind that children under 2 years old go free.

Try typical Italian dishes such as pasta and ice cream. You’ll also sample some of the locals’ favourite dishes, such as fried artichokes.

There are two time slots available for this food tour, with slight differences in the itinerary:

  • Daytime option: This usually starts in Piazza Farnese and includes a visit to the Camp de’ Fiori market, where you’ll learn about the key ingredients of Italian cuisine. Please note: there is no visit to the market on Sundays.
  • Afternoon option: The starting point is the same, but instead of visiting the market, you’ll explore some of the shops in the area.

In both cases, the tour will take in such iconic spots as Via dei Baullari, Antico Forno Roscioli (the city’s oldest bakery), the city’s former Jewish ghetto and the Trastevere neighbourhood.

What’s included

  • Small group of around 12 people
  • Tastings of traditional Italian food, including ice cream
  • Water.
  • 3 tastings of fine wine in different locations

Step by Step

Enjoy a gastronomic tour of Rome lasting around three and a half hours. Visit iconic locations such as the Trastevere neighbourhood, Piazza Campo de’ Fiori and the Jewish Ghetto. You’ll also sample classic dishes such as pasta, pizza and Italian wine.

The tour will take place in small groups of around 12 people, allowing your guide to offer you a more personalised experience.

The tour usually takes in the following places, with commentary from the expert guide:

  • Campo dei Fiori: if you choose the daytime option, you’ll visit the market held there. Otherwise, you can explore the local food shops.
  • Trastevere: Rome’s liveliest neighbourhood in the evenings. Its streets are lined with restaurants, nightclubs and shops.
  • Via Portico d’Ottavia: you’ll have the chance to sample some fried specialities. Pizza lovers will adore the stop at the capital’s oldest bakery, renowned for its delicious Roman pizzas.
  • Jewish Ghetto: Pope Paul IV established this neighbourhood in 1555 with the aim of isolating the Jewish community. Almost 3,000 Jews lived here in cramped conditions. As you stroll through this area, you’ll see the Great Synagogue, Rome’s oldest synagogue.
  • Tiber Island: a small island 270 metres long situated on the River Tiber. To reach this islet, you’ll cross the Fabrician Bridge, built in 62 BC, which is the oldest bridge from that period and has been preserved in its original state.

On this gourmet tour, a delicious dessert is a must. An artisan ice-cream parlour awaits you with its exquisite natural ice creams. On the menu you’ll find pistachio, orange, strawberry, melon, almond and many more flavours.

I knew that Campo de' Fiori was an exceptional market with a great reputation, but having the opportunity to go and buy was fantastic.
