Venice Mask Workshop

This workshop invites you to discover the most authentic and creative side of Venice at the Carta Alta studio, an artisan workshop specialising in Venetian masks that has worked for international film and television productions. Here you don't just buy a mask: you create it yourself from scratch, with the guidance of a team of professional artisans.

The experience begins with a brief introduction to the history of Venetian masks, where you will learn about such iconic models as the "Commedia dell'Arte", the "Bauta", the "Moretta" or the "Dottore della Peste". You will understand why these figures are part of Venice's identity and how they were used in festivals, carnivals and theatre.

Afterwards, you will move on to the more creative part of the workshop: the artisans will show you the main decorative techniques they use in their daily work, with special attention to their personal hallmark, the "baroque technique", characterised by rich details, gilding and elaborate designs. You will be able to choose from a wide variety of ready-made papier-mâché masks and start decorating them with brushes, paints and other materials.

Throughout the process, the team will be on hand to help you with ideas, colours and finishes, adapting the explanations to the age and interest of each participant, making it a perfect activity for both adults and families with children. In addition, you will have time to ask questions, learn curiosities about this ancient Venetian craft and, of course, take pictures with your creation and with the most famous masks of the studio.

At the end of the workshop, you will take home your own handmade Venetian mask, solid and ready to wear or decorate your home. A different, relaxed and very special experience for those who are looking for more than just a sightseeing tour in Venice.
