Step by Step

Discover the best of Venice from a unique perspective on this private, approximately 3-hour tour of the city. A perfect overview featuring the highlights of La Serenissima, hidden gems, ancient legends and a local gift.

You’ll enjoy beautiful views of what is the oldest and, without a doubt, the most famous bridge in Venice: the Rialto Bridge. The oldest of the bridges spanning Venice’s Grand Canal – having collapsed twice – it features a structure similar to that of its predecessors: two sloping ramps joined by a portico in the middle.

Crossing the Rialto Bridge will take you to the Rialto Market, the heart of the city. One of its great charms is the vibrant colour of its stalls, where you can buy fresh fruit, vegetables, fish, seafood and more. This picturesque spot has been the place of choice for Venetians to trade, sell and conduct business since the 11th century.

You’ll pass by Marco Polo’s former home and hear stories from your guide about his explorations and travel tales.

You’ll admire a masterpiece of Gothic architecture, the Doge’s Palace in Venice. Situated in St Mark’s Square, this palace began life as a fortified castle in the 9th century, although, following a fire, it was rebuilt as a fortress and prison. Also known as the Palace of the Doge, this historic Italian building combines Byzantine, Gothic and Renaissance architectural elements.

You’ll admire the Church of San Francesco della Vigna, a religious building with a distinctly Tuscan style, and the impressive Church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli. You’ll be able to admire this jewel of the Venetian Renaissance, which has remained intact since its construction. Its false columns on the walls and its semi-circular apse make this Catholic church one of Venice’s most treasured attractions.

Be dazzled by Venice’s largest church, the Basilica of Saints John and Paul. This enormous Italian Gothic-style brick building is the main Dominican church in Venice, built to preach to large congregations. You’ll discover its most hidden gems with the help of an expert local guide and enjoy a delicious local wine.

We were able to see at close quarters how glass blowing and Burano lace works are created, and appreciate the talent and skill of the artists.

One of the highlights was a visit to a traditional Venetian mask shop. There we learned about the history of the masks and had the opportunity to try on some of them, immersing ourselves in the mystery and magic of Venice.
