Step by Step
After adjusting your helmet and goggles, your guide explains how to control the throttle and maintain your balance on steep descents. You soon leave the tarmac behind for a Paris-Dakar rally track, where the reddish dust signals your arrival in the deep desert. The engine roars, the suspension absorbs the bumps and, suddenly, the great sand wall of Erg Chebbi looms before you.
As you conquer the first dune, the horizon stretches out endlessly and all you can hear is the hum of the quad bike and the wind sculpting the ridges. A photo stop at a hidden oasis gives you a chance to stretch your legs, take a sip of water and discover how the Berber nomads made use of these natural wells on their journeys.
The route continues at a brisk pace: figure-of-eight turns on gentle slopes, heart-pounding descents and a final straight where the guide invites you to test the top speed in complete safety. If you’ve chosen the sunset slot, the sand takes on orange hues and the shadows lengthen to create a surreal, postcard-worthy landscape.
Back at base, a refreshing drink and the dust on your clothes are proof that you’ve experienced an intense hour of adrenaline in the heart of the Sahara. The staff offer advice on cleaning your kit and recommendations for other things to do in Merzouga, such as the classic camel ride or a night under the stars.

- HH.Correct equipment, cold water at the end, photos that I remember very much... one of the best experiences of the trip.
