Step by Step
After checking in at the centre or getting into the courtesy van, the team greets you with wetsuit and harness ready. A short warm-up in the sand is enough to go over the flying window, line set-up and use of the safety system. As soon as the instructor holds the kite over your head, you'll feel the famous smoothing breeze that makes Essaouira the Mecca of Moroccan kitesurfing.
The first exercises focus on bar control and body-drag; those who have already mastered the traction then move on to water-start and side-sailing. The course takes place in small groups, which allows for personalised instruction and quick changes of equipment according to the evolution of each student. Between attempts, the instructor corrects posture and explains how to read the wind to take advantage of each gust.
After two hours, with your muscles loaded with salt and wind, you dismantle your lines and receive detailed feedback for your next session. The lesson ends at the same meeting point: all that's left to do is take a shower, stretch and relax in the cafés on the promenade while you watch other kitesurfers draw shapes in the Atlantic.
