Step by Step

The adventure begins with pick-up from your hotel in Paracas or Pisco (include the name in the next step of the booking process), from where a private vehicle will take you comfortably along the coastal road to the Pisco River Valley. The 60 km drive takes you through desert landscapes and overlooking the sea before arriving at the archaeological site.

Upon arrival at Tambo Colorado, your guide will explain the origin of the name ("Puka Tampu" or "Pucahuasi") and its role during the reign of the Inca Pachacutec. You will visit the trapezoidal central square, surrounded by north and south palaces, ceremonial platforms and the majestic "Fortaleza".

Thanks to the dry climate, the original colours of the walls - red, yellow and blue - have been preserved almost intact. You will learn how the Incas mixed pigments and stones to create these vibrant panels that tell ritual stories.

You'll explore the dwellings and storehouses, where the Incas stored food and tools. Your guide will detail the influences of the Wari and Cusco cultures on the architecture, and how this site controlled the route between the coast and the highlands.

After completing the tour of the main structures and taking in the views of the desert and valley, you will return to your vehicle for the transfer back to Paracas, with time to reflect on the greatness of this lost civilisation.
