Step by Step
In the morning your transport will pick you up from your hotel, the land terminal or the airport in Puerto Maldonado. After a short transfer, you will embark on a boat on the Madre de Dios River for about 45 minutes, gradually making your way into the river that gives access to the reserve.
When you reach the bank of the main trail, you will begin a 2-hour walk along a clearly discernible path through the rainforest. You will be accompanied by a native guide who will point out the most emblematic species of flora and fauna: toucans, macaws, howler monkeys, giant anteaters and many others. Keep your eyes peeled for the family of giant otters and records of caimans hidden in the marshy vegetation.
Once you reach Sandoval Lake, you'll board a paddle boat to glide silently over its waters. This is home to piranhas, taricayas (turtles) and a multitude of freshwater fish. The landscape, with sunken logs and palm trees on the banks, offers a spectacle of reflections and sounds that only the Amazon can provide.
After this aquatic experience, you will return to the starting point to enjoy a traditional lunch in a rustic camp, prepared with local ingredients. It will be the ideal moment to recharge your batteries and share photos and anecdotes with your expedition companions.
