Step by Step
This 48-hour open-top bus ticket will allow you to discover the magic of Lisbon, one of the most important and liveable cities in Europe.
You’ll receive a ticket valid forexploring two long and varied routes, plus a tram ride through the city’s hills.
You’ll have the chance to visit over 50 iconic sites and monuments in the Portuguese capital, exploring those that take your fancy on foot.
Among the must-sees is Lisbon’s impressive Parque das Nações, which stretches for around 6 km to the north and brings together many of the top attractions for tourists and locals alike:
- Belém Tower: this monument was built in the 16th century as a fortress to protect Lisbon during the Age of Discovery
- Vasco da Gama Bridge: you’ll be impressed by this bridge’s 17 km length, which reaches a height of around 150 metres at its highest point
- Oriente Station: an architectural marvel featuring steel and glass details inspired by trees, housing one of Lisbon’s most important metro and railway stations
The two routes you can explore are the Belém route and the Modern Lisbon route. As you pass through the Belém neighbourhood, you’ll see the stunning Jerónimos Monastery.
This historic site, designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was built to celebrate the height of Portugal ’s Age of Discovery, with the explorer Vasco da Gama as its central figure.
Another unforgettable stop is Lisbon Cathedral, situated in the Alfama district and founded in the 12th century. Its Romanesque façade is one of the most beautiful spots for taking photographs. With the audio guide on board the bus, you’ll learn a little about its history.
Upon entering the National Tile Museum, you’ll be able to admire the works of art immortalised on these tiles – a unique style characteristic of Portugal – with pieces dating from the 16th century onwards.
And, of course, your ticket includes a tram ride, which will reveal why Lisbon is known as the city of seven hills, taking you past St George’s Castle and the Basilica of Estrela, amongst other sites that will showcase the amazing history of Portugal’s capital.
Once your ticket is activated, you have two days to explore all the routes at your own pace. Both the Belém and Lisbon Moderna buses run every 30 and 60 minutes respectively.
