Experience Highlights

Discover the terraced vineyards of the Douro at your leisure with a quad bike rental in Pinhão. After signing the liability waiver and picking up a helmet and map, simply follow the marked trails up to viewpoints over the river. These automatic vehicles are easy to handle and have room for one passenger, so you can share the adventure with a companion.

The departure base is just a few minutes from the pier, from where you'll be taken directly onto country roads that wind through historic farms and stone villages. The rental is for 2 hours so you can combine the route with a visit to a winery or a sun cruise.

  • Book your quad in advance and avoid being left without a vehicle.
  • Choose the duration that suits your wineries and viewpoints plan.
  • Experience the freedom of touring unhurried UNESCO Heritage vineyards

Step by Step

As soon as you arrive at the Pinhão office, the staff checks your driving licence and explains the quad's controls: handlebar throttle, hydraulic brake and assisted reverse gear. After a brief test ride in the car park, you are given an approved helmet, goggles and a physical and digital map with recommended routes and points of interest.

The first part of the route follows a packed dirt track winding through rows of Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz. The suspension absorbs the bumps and allows you to enjoy the scenery without any surprises. The viewpoints marked "Panorâmica" offer postcard views: the river in an S-shape, rabelos boats in the distance and vines clinging to impossible terraces.

If you choose the half-day option, you'll have time to stop in a small wine-growing village for a cheese and sausage platter. The locals always welcome you with a smile: the sound of the quad bike announces your arrival and conversation flows between barrels and vine shoots. The air-cooled engine makes it easy to drive on steep slopes; just let off the gas to descend slowly and smell the scent of steva and rosemary that permeates the valley.

The final section descends towards the river, passing through centuries-old olive groves where the shade cools the route. Those who choose the shorter version can take advantage of the last few minutes to photograph the whitewashed village of Pinhão reflected in the Douro. On returning the quad, the team checks the fuel and bodywork, offers a wet wipe to remove dust and shares recommendations of riverside restaurants to celebrate the day.
