This is the most visited part of the fortress, so to ensure access on the date and time you want, I recommend booking your full ticket to the Alhambra online as far in advance as possible, around one or two months before your trip.

Buying your tickets online has several advantages. Not only can you compare prices and ticket types (day or night tours, with or without a guided tour, in small or standard groups, etc.), but you'll also save yourself from having to queue for ages at the ticket office and avoid the risk of being left without tickets, as they are in high demand and there is limited capacity each day.

How much do tickets to the Nasrid Palaces cost?

Admission to the Nasrid Palaces is included in the price of tickets to the Alhambra and in most guided tours of the Alhambra, so you won't have to pay extra to access this part of the fortress.

The price of tickets to the Alhambra (which include access to the Nasrid Palaces, the Partal, the Alcazaba and the Generalife) is around £24, but buying them at the ticket office is not the best idea. Every day there is a limited number of tickets available and demand to visit is very high, so you risk having to queue for a long time at the ticket office without being sure of getting a ticket.

The only way to guarantee access is to buy your Alhambra ticket online, which will allow you to enter the monument directly without queuing and also to visit the entire Nasrid complex at your own pace.

Is it worth taking a guided tour of the Nasrid Palaces in the Alhambra?

Absolutely. In my opinion, guided tours of the Alhambra are the best way to get to know and explore the ancient palatine city, especially if it's your first time visiting and you're not familiar with it.

With a professional guide, you'll take a trip back in time to the origins of this monument to discover its history and delve into the meaning of its beautiful architecture, which has amazed travellers from all over the world for generations.

During the tour , the guide will explain in detail all the sites you see. There is no doubt that if you explore the Alhambra on your own, you will see a beautiful monument, but the experience may leave you wanting more, as you will miss out on the context, anecdotes and, ultimately, the overall view of the Nasrid fortress that a professional guide provides.

The most visited part of the Alhambra is the Nasrid Palaces, where the rulers of the ancient kingdom of Granada once lived.

With this in mind, your tour of the Alhambra should be organised according to the time of your admission to the Nasrid Palaces, as each visitor can only visit this part of the fortress at the time indicated on their ticket, and this cannot be changed.

To prevent damage to the monument and avoid overcrowding, admission to the Nasrid Palaces is in 30-minute time slots.

As you can see, time is limited, and although you could spend hours admiring the beauty, I recommend arriving on time to make the most of your visit, as you will not be allowed in if you are late. In fact, if you can be there 15 minutes before the time indicated on your ticket, all the better.

Once inside, open your eyes wide and pay attention to all the details of the architecture and ornamentation in the different rooms of the palaces. They are amazing!

The Nasrid Palaces are an important part of the visit to the Nasrid fortress, but there are other very interesting parts. In my article How long does it take to visit the Alhambra, I tell you in detail how much time you will need to see the entire monument, among other things.

Yes, you can, and it's a magical experience! Highly recommended if you want to enjoy the Alhambra in an original and different way under the stars.

While daytime visits allow you to explore the entire monument complex, night-time visits focus exclusively on the Nasrid Palaces or the Generalife Palace and gardens. Both take place at the same time but separately and usually last 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Contemplating the Nasrid Palaces at night is something you cannot miss during your trip to Granada. If the beauty of the Alhambra is striking in daylight, I must say that at night it has an enigmatic and special charm.

As the silence of the night falls, a stroll through the Alhambra is peaceful and you can enjoy the fusion between the natural surroundings and the architecture of the palatine city even more. In addition, the delicate lighting of the monument creates an intimate atmosphere and allows you to better appreciate some of the ornamental elements such as the muqarnas and the reliefs of the plasterwork.

If you would like to know more about the night-time visit to the Nasrid Palaces, I recommend reading my article Night-time visits to the Alhambra. It will be a visit you will never forget!

If you've already got your ticket to visit the Nasrid Palaces, you might want to know what to take with you to make the most of your visit. Here are the essentials:

  • Of course, you'll need a good camera to capture the beauty of what is considered the eighth wonder of the world.
  • Also, on the day of your visit, remember to bring your ID card or passport with you. This is very important! For security and conservation reasons, Alhambra staff carry out ID checks on visitors and you must show this document together with your tickets, which are nominative, personal and non-transferable.
  • On the other hand, if, like many other tourists, you are travelling to Granada during the summer holidays to visit the Nasrid Palaces and the rest of the monumental complex, you should be aware that at this time of year it is very hot in the city. To protect yourself from the high temperatures, it is essential to cover your head with a hat, apply sunscreen, use a fan to cool yourself down and wear sunglasses.
  • Finally, if you get hungry at any point during the tour, I recommend carrying a bottle of cold water and a snack in your bag. Don't forget to book a table at a restaurant to eat at after your visit. In the post Where to eat near the Alhambra, you will find several suggestions near the monument with magnificent views.
  • Oh, and don't forget to wear comfortable shoes because the visit to the Nasrid fortress is long (3.5 kilometres) and you'll be walking a lot from one place to another. At the end of the day, your feet will thank you for it.

If you want to see the Nasrid Palaces along with the rest of the Alhambra, there are two times during the day that are best for visiting the monument: first thing in the morning when the fortress opens its doors or after lunch around 3 or 4 PM. There are not many tourists and you can explore the Alhambra at your leisure.

However, if you want to focus on seeing the Nasrid Palaces, night-time visits to the Alhambra (at 10 pm in summer and 8 pm in winter) are very charming and highly recommended. Seeing it in the stillness of the night and in the moonlight is a magical experience.

If you would like to know more about the Alhambra's opening and closing times to better plan your visit, then I recommend reading the article Alhambra opening times in Granada, where I explain everything in detail.

Can you see the Nasrid Palaces for free?

No, generally not. Access to the Nasrid Palaces is subject to a fee, and you will need to purchase a ticket to tour this part of the Alhambra, whether it is a daytime or night-time visit.

But there are exceptions! Only if you are from Granada or a resident of Granada can you visit the Alhambra for free on weekends as part of an initiative launched by the Patronato de la Alhambra y Generalife to raise awareness among the local population of the historical significance of the Alhambra.

These types of visits are highly sought after and it is not easy to get a place. However, you can try your luck and attempt to make a reservation online by filling out the form and attaching the required supporting documentation. Another option is to apply in person at the Residents' Office located in the Corral del Carbón.

However, if you are a visitor passing through Granada, don't worry, because there are ways to save a little on your tickets to the Alhambra. I'll tell you all about it in the article How to get free or discounted tickets to the Alhambra!

The Nasrid Palaces are the heart of the Alhambra and one of the most spectacular areas of the monumental complex. This complex was the official residence of the sultans of the Nasrid dynasty and consists of three palaces: the Mexuar, the Comares Palace and the Palace of the Lions.

  • Mexuar: the audience chamber where the sultan administered justice.
  • Comares Palace: the official residence of the sultan and home to the throne room.
  • Palacio de los Leones: residence of the royal family, notable for its emblematic Patio de los Leones (Courtyard of the Lions).

Which rooms will you visit?

During the tour, you will see unique spaces such as the Ambassadors' Hall, the Patio de los Arrayanes, the Abencerrajes Room, the Kings' Room and the iconic Patio de los Leones, a jewel of Islamic art.

The Nasrid decoration

Take a look at the plasterwork, the tiled baseboards and the muqarnas that decorate the arches and domes. Also noteworthy are the inscriptions in classical Arabic, many of them with poems and texts from the Koran. It is estimated that there are more than 10,000 scattered throughout the complex. A true artistic spectacle.
