Step by Step
Welcome to El Capricho de Gaudí, one of the most original and charming buildings of Spanish modernism. Located on the Cantabrian coast, in the town of Comillas, this building was designed by a young Antoni Gaudí for Máximo Díaz de Quijano, brother-in-law of the Marquis of Comillas, at the end of the 19th century.
During this one-hour guided tour, you will walk through the different rooms of the house while an expert guide will explain the history, symbology and unique features of the building. You'll learn why Gaudí chose to include natural motifs such as ceramic sunflowers and leaves, and how his orientalising style was reflected in elements such as the Persian-like minaret that crowns the main tower.
The visit will also give you an insight into the architect's holistic approach, who conceived of spaces not just as rooms, but as living works of art, where light, colour and form play a central role.
This tour is an ideal opportunity to get to know Gaudí's most experimental and decorative facet, prior to his great works in Barcelona. El Capricho not only represents a key stage in his career, but also a key monument for understanding the evolution of Modernisme.
Don't forget to take your camera: every corner of this building is a work of art worth photographing.
