Step by Step
This excursion to the Caminito del Rey is one of the best ways to discover one of Andalusia’s great natural landmarks without having to worry about organising transport. The tour departs from Seville and offers a full day out in spectacular surroundings, ideal for those seeking an active and scenic getaway outside the city.
The Caminito del Rey trail runs through the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes gorge and covers a distance of around 3 kilometres at its most famous section, featuring very narrow stretches and suspended walkways that have made this one of Spain’s most famous trails. The route runs between Ardales, Antequera and El Chorro, offering an experience full of breathtaking views over rocky cliffs, canyons and the landscape of inland Málaga.
One of the most interesting aspects of the visit is its history. This path was originally built by the Sociedad Hidroeléctrica del Chorro to facilitate the movement of workers and materials between different areas of the hydroelectric power station. Over time, it fell into disrepair and came to be regarded as one of the most dangerous footpaths in Europe, until it was restored and reopened to the public as a safe route stretching some 7 kilometres.
At the end of the Caminito, the coach collects the group to continue the day’s programme. After the walk, travellers are taken to the area for lunch at a local restaurant or given free time to eat on their own or enjoy a picnic. The excursion may also include a stop to visit Osuna, a town designated a Historic-Artistic Site.
All in all, this is a highly recommended excursion for those who want to enjoy an active day out in the heart of nature and discover one of Andalusia’s most spectacular trails, organised in a comfortable and well-thought-out manner.
