Step by Step
This excursion to the Utiel-Requena wineries from Valencia takes you to one of the most traditional wine-producing regions in the Valencian Community. Amidst vineyards, historic villages and rolling hills, you’ll discover a wine culture whose origins date back several centuries and experience the characteristic flavours of the Utiel-Requena Designation of Origin (D.O.).
The first stop will be the Bodega Histórica Murviedro, situated in the old town of Requena. You’ll explore its medieval underground cellars, which have been used for centuries to store wine and food thanks to their stable temperature. During the visit, you’ll taste three wines – one of them right in the cellars themselves – and round off the experience with an aperitif.
You’ll then continue to the Bodega Vera de Estenas, a historic estate surrounded by vineyards, whose Art Nouveau winery dates back to 1876. Over the course of about an hour and a half, you’ll tour the premises and learn about its winemaking tradition before enjoying a tasting of three Valencian wines, accompanied by local cheeses and cured meats.
What’s more, the landscape and activities change with the seasons: in August and September you can taste grapes straight from the vine, and in October the experience may include the traditional grape-stomping. A gastronomic and cultural experience designed for wine lovers, couples, groups and families alike who want to discover the Valencian countryside in a different way.
Reviews
- SS.I came away feeling as though I’d got to know a very authentic part of the Valencian Community. The guide was friendly and everything went quite smoothly.
- BB.A different sort of excursion from Valencia. The six drinks are well spread out and the appetisers help quite a bit.
- NN.The Vera de Estenas estate is beautiful. I would have liked to have been able to stroll through the vineyards a little longer, but the visit was very comprehensive.
- TT.A good balance between sightseeing, tastings and time on the road. It’s clear that the itinerary has been designed to make the most of the 6 hours.
