Step by Step
Boarding at Lilla Bommen, next to the opera house and the Viking sailing ship, marks the start of a tour that blends seafaring tradition and Scandinavian design. On board, an audio guide points out old spice warehouses, giant cranes reminiscent of the shipyard past and bridges so low they barely touch the cabin: get your camera ready for that classic "duck under"!
The first popular stop is Feskekôrka, the gastronomic temple where fishermen display Arctic prawns and smoked salmon. From here, a short walk takes you to the bohemian Haga district, full of wooden houses, vintage boutiques and the irresistible aroma of giant cinnamon rolls. Back on the water, the boat glides towards Lindholmen, the heart of technological innovation. The old dykes have been transformed into floating cafés and walls covered in street art that beg to be photographed.
Further along, the route crosses the estuary to reveal the skyline of Eriksberg, where grain silos have been converted into lofts with red brick facades. In the background is the Älvsborg Bridge, gateway to the archipelago. Each stretch offers new angles of the sailing ships of the Maritiman museum, the neo-Renaissance town hall and the modern electric ferries that connect the islands.
With regular departures, you can organise your day as you please: have breakfast at Haga, visit the Universeum, eat seafood overlooking the river and finish the afternoon in the street markets of Stenpiren. When you return the headphones at the end of the day, you'll have discovered why Sweden's second city is a perfect balance of harbour tradition and sustainable avant-garde.
