Step by Step

The Swedish Museum of History is a time capsule that traces the evolution of life in Sweden from prehistoric times to the present day. Housed in a carefully adapted building, it houses 10 exhibits on three floors, where you'll see how Stone Age hunters, Bronze Age farmers and the complex societies that built the modern country lived.

One of the centrepieces is "The Viking World", one of the largest and most comprehensive Viking exhibitions in the world. There you can understand the cosmology, daily life, exploration and influence of the Vikings through artefacts, reconstructions and immersive narratives. Nearby, in the Gold Hall, you will discover Sweden's finest gold and silver antiques, objects that reflect status, rituals and the master craftsmanship of bygone eras.

The exhibition "Sápmi - Our part of the world" introduces visitors to the Sami culture - the indigenous people of northern Scandinavia - through a collaboration with Ájtte through a collaboration with Ájtte, with photographs, videos and testimonies that give voice and context to their history, identity and relationship with nature.

For families, the museum offers the Viking Mission, with outdoor activities, crafts and games designed for children and adults to participate together. There are audio guides and educational trails that make the historical narrative more accessible and entertaining for all audiences.

In addition, your ticket includes access to the Museum of Economics, located in the same building, which broadens the perspective on how economic forces have shaped Sweden over time. The combination of cultural, Viking, indigenous and economic history makes this visit a comprehensive and multi-dimensional experience.
