Step by Step

Your tour starts at the base of operations, located just a few minutes' drive from the centre of Kanchanaburi. There you'll be given a helmet, helped to adjust your handlebar height, and given the basics: posture, regenerative braking and top speed. After a couple of practice rides on flat terrain, the group heads out onto narrow country roads lined with bright green rice paddies where it's not uncommon to see water buffalo soaking and wading birds foraging for food.

With the breeze in your face and the electric motor almost silent, you wind your way past family farms, papaya orchards and date palms. The guide points out botanical curiosities and, with a bit of luck, shows peaceful reptiles such as monitor lizards basking in the sun by the canals. Halfway through the tour, you pause at a café on stilts; craft drinks are served - not included - and from the terrace a natural amphitheatre of rice fields opens up, swaying like a green sea in the sun.

Back on the scooter, the route continues to a Chinese temple dotted with red lanterns and dragon statues, perfect for immortalising the cultural contrast of the valley. The final stretch leads to the famous Bridge over the River Kwai, the historic landmark of the "Death Railway". With the engine off, you slowly cross the iron structure to photograph the greenish-brown riverbed and listen to the story of the POWs who built it during World War II.

The activity concludes back at the base, where the team collects the scooters and shares Kanchanaburi's best food trails for you to round off your day with a massaman curry or pad thai noodles by the river.
