Discover the Al Khayma camp in Dubai through a range of activities, such as a safari through the dunes of the Lahbab Desert, a camel ride and ‘sandboarding’ – sliding down sandy slopes – just 40 kilometres from Dubai. You’ll spend around 7 hours on this excursion, which also includes a falconry experience and a dinner featuring Bedouin cuisine.

You’ll be picked up from your hotel and taken to the Al Khayma camp, where your adventure begins. You’ll traverse the dunes in an air-conditioned 4x4, bouncing over the dunes for around 45 minutes.

You’ll also have unlimited soft drinks throughout the experience, as well as the chance to smoke a water pipe (shisha) whilst dressed in traditional attire. And, as if that weren’t enough, you’ll see a tanoura show – a type of folk dance rooted in Sufi traditions.

You’ll have access to the Al Khayma camp, where you’ll take part in a range of activities, such as a tour of the Lahbab Desert dunes or a go at ‘sandboarding’
A car will pick you up to take you to Al Khayma and will drive you back to your hotel in Dubai after the experience, which will last around 7 hours
One of the highlights of this experience is that you’ll be able to go for a camel ride and take part in an activity with falcons, one of the Gulf’s favourite animals. You’ll also enjoy unlimited soft drinks and a traditional Bedouin dinner.

Step by Step

On this experience, you’ll enjoy the desert like never before. Thanks to this activity, which lasts around seven hours, you’ll have the chance to take an air-conditioned off-road tourthrough the dunes at the Al Khayma camp in Dubai. A vehicle will collect you from your hotel in Dubai to take you to the camp, situated some 40 kilometres from what is considered the economic capital of the United Arab Emirates, and will bring you back once the activity is over.

Upon arrival at the camp, you’ll set off with an experienced driver for a tour of the red dunes of the Lahbab Desert, which will last around 45 minutes. But the excitement in the desert sand doesn’t end there, as you’ll have the chance to slide down the dunes on a board in an activity known as‘sandboarding’.

To shake the sand off your feet and body after these experiences, there will be further activities to help you relax. You’ll be assigned a camp where you can help yourself to as many soft drinks as you like. You’ll also change into traditional clothing, such as the abaya (for women) and the kandura (for men). Women will also be able to have henna tattoos applied to their hands, which fade after a few days.

Wearing these clothes, you’ll be able to enjoy a camel ride at a more leisurely pace – which you can repeat if you’ve enjoyed it – as well as an experience with trained falcons. The experience wouldn’t be complete without a tanoura show – a highly visual folk dance – and a dinner featuring the cuisine of the Bedouins, the inhabitants of the desert.

The food was exquisite. It was a plus that they have veggie alternatives, as my daughter is vegan and it is very difficult to find food for her.

The experience was impeccable. We were picked up on time, the driver was always very polite and on arrival the service was phenomenal. My favourite activity was the sanboarding and the buggy which I took in addition. My girlfriend loves adventure so it was a treat for her. If you have a gopro I recommend taking it along for some great photos and videos.

I chose the camel ride and I don't regret it! I recommend you do it if you are already here. I haven't seen anything like it in any other country and the pictures they take are amazing.
