Step by Step
Explore South Wales on this fascinating guided excursion, ideal for those wishing to immerse themselves in the history, culture and spectacular landscapes of this legendary land. This tour offers two route options, each with its own charm and unique attractions.
Wandering Bard Valley Option
This route will take you through valleys steeped in history and past majestic Norman castles:
- Caerphilly Castle: One of the most impressive castles in the UK, famous for its sheer size and strategic location. Here you can explore its medieval history and take some spectacular photos.
- Tintern Abbey: A mystical place with panoramic views of the River Wye. Discover the ruins of this Cistercian abbey, which has inspired poets and artists throughout the centuries.
- Chepstow Castle: Visit Wales’ first Norman castle, perched on a cliff overlooking the River Wye. Enjoy a stroll through this charming market town.
Swansea Bay Option
If you prefer a coastal tour, the Swansea Bay option will take you to some of the most beautiful spots along the Welsh coast:
- Rhossili Bay: Enjoy one of Wales’ most iconic beaches, with views of the cliffs and the famous ‘Worm’s Head’.
- Mumbles: Stop for lunch in this charming coastal village and try the world-famous Joe’s ice cream. (Free time for lunch, not included).
- Neath Abbey: Explore a 900-year-old abbey in the beautiful Neath Valley, a place steeped in history and tranquillity.
- Melincourt Waterfall: Known as the ‘land of waterfalls’, this region is home to one of the most impressive, immortalised in the paintings of J.M.W. Turner. The walk to the waterfall is short but offers spectacular views.
Both tours are designed for small groups (maximum 8 people), allowing for a more personalised experience and better interaction with the guide.
Reviews
- RR.Although the day is long, it doesn't get tiring thanks to the good pace. A good excursion for photos, to disconnect.
- NN.One minor "but": on the valley route there are quite a few small stretches of road and viewpoints. Still, the combination of history and nature is excellent.
- MM.Ideal for those who only have a day off in Cardiff and want to see more of the country. Very good overview of South Wales.
- CC.We were picked up at the hotel at the appointed time, which I found very convenient. The tour lived up to its promise.
