Step by Step

St Patrick’s Cathedral is a landmark for many of the city’s Catholics. The catacombs in its underground levels have become a must-see for many of them.

Entry to the cathedral is free, but access to the catacombs is restricted to tour participants. The tour, lasting one and a half hours, will begin with a visit to the cathedral, pass through several walled cemeteries and end in the catacombs.

An expert guide will reveal all the secrets hidden within the cathedral’s walls. These very walls have served as the backdrop for films such as *The Godfather* and *Mean Streets*.

For over 200 years, this place of worship has borne witness to the struggles of prominent Catholics in New York City. Bishops and notable New Yorkers, such as the Delmonico family, are laid to rest here.

The guide will lead you through several walled cemeteries before descending one level below the basilica. There you’ll find three aisles lined with crypts. At the start of the tour, you’ll be given a candle so that you can read the names of those who rest there.

Don’t confuse this with St Patrick’s Cathedral on 5th Avenue! This tour starts at 266 Mulberry Street (on the corner of Mulberry Street and Jersey Street). You’ll need to be at this meeting point 15 minutes before the tour starts and check in.

Choose the day and time that best suits your trip and get ready to explore this iconic site in New York’s history.
