Step by Step
As soon as the guide adjusts your seat in the open-top 4×4 vehicle, the engine starts to move along sandy tracks along the Chobe River, the lifeblood of more than 50,000 elephants. The first impact comes with the sight of entire herds crossing the riverbed at dusk.
At every turn, the experience intensifies: buffalo ruminate on the floodplains, groups of hippos emerge amidst lily pads and spotted giraffe nibble on acacia trees against the light. With the help of binoculars and the guide's expert eyes, you may spot lions lying next to mopans or an elusive leopard resting on the branch of a sausage-tree.
Halfway through the drive, the driver chooses a safe clearing to serve you fresh bottled water and a small snack, an ideal time to discuss the wealth of ecosystems that make Chobe unique: the dense riverine belt, the Serondela plains and the dry forests of the interior. Each environment is home to spectacular birds - kingfishers, goliath herons and African fish eagles - which your guide will laser-mark if you wish.
The return to Kasane often coincides with the golden light framing silhouettes against the river; a postcard perfect way to end the day. Back at your accommodation or at the starting point, you will take with you a memory full of images and the certainty of having experienced a classic African safari in one of the continent's most famous parks.
