Step by Step

Founded in 1900, the Art Gallery of Ontario is today one of the most important art museums in North America. With the purchase of these tickets, you can enter without queuing and admire the more than 25,000 masterpieces housed inside. The list below lists the main ones:.

  • "Adam and Eve", Albrecht Dürer - The German Renaissance artist's version places the two characters in a dense forest reminiscent of those in his homeland.
  • "The Massacre of the Innocents", Peter Paul Rubens - The Flemish master depicts a famous biblical episode in which King Herod orders the execution of all children under the age of two. The painting is a splendid example of Italian-inspired baroque.
  • "The West Wind, Tom Thompson - A solitary pine tree characterised by its weather-twisted trunk and branches. It has an extraordinary evocative power
  • "Indian Church", Emily Carr - A small white church with a lush, dark forest behind it. It symbolises a meeting place between two very different spiritual forces.
  • "Young Woman with a Lapdog", Rembrandt - Rembrandt's portraits are considered his finest works. They are characterised by thick brushstrokes and dark colours.

The Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) is an architectural collage and represents in some ways the evolution of Toronto over the last hundred years. The latest major transformation is the work of Frank Gehry, who added steel arches, glass and plywood.
