Step by Step

Terezín was originally built as a fortified town in the late 18th century, but its history changed radically during the Second World War. Following the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia, the site became a ghetto and transit camp for thousands of Jews from various European countries.

One of the main highlights of the visit is the Small Fortress, which was used as a Gestapo prison during the occupation. You will walk through its original courtyards, cells and rooms whilst learning about the conditions in which those imprisoned there lived.

The tour continues through the former Terezín Ghetto, where thousands of people were forced to live in overcrowded and extremely harsh conditions. Through the preserved buildings, documents and testimonies, you will gain a better understanding of how the ghetto functioned and what role it played within the Nazi deportation system.

Among the memorial’s most significant sites are also the Ghetto Museum, the Crematorium and the National Cemetery – places that allow you to engage with the individual stories of those who passed through Terezín and to grasp the human dimension of what took place.

More than just a conventional excursion, this visit is an experience of historical remembrance. The tour invites you to reflect on persecution, dignity, freedom and the importance of preserving the memory of the victims for future generations.

I changed my concept of Prague after doing this tour. Obviously there are things you don't know when you travel to a city. It was very good to know them.
