Step by Step

You will start your tour at the Accra Tourist Information Centre, where your guide will give you a brief introduction to the history of Ghana and Accra. On board a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle, you'll head for Black Star Gate, a national symbol built next to Independence Square and witness to the country's major civic events.

A few minutes away is Asomdwe Park, the resting place of former President J. EA Mills. Stroll through its gardens and observe local birds such as ostriches and ducks, while learning about the legacy of peace of one of Ghana's most beloved leaders.

You'll visit Christiansburg Castle (Osu Castle), a 17th century Danish fort that later passed into British hands. Your guide will recount key episodes of the colonial era and take you to James Town, where you will see the outside of the colonial lighthouse (now under renovation) and stroll through its lively and traditional streets.

Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park will amaze you with its majestic mausoleum and gardens, dedicated to Ghana's first president and one of the fathers of African unity. You will have time to explore the interior museum (admission included) and pay homage at the leader's tomb.

The tour culminates at the Memorial Park, where the Center for National Culture is located. Here you will find Ghanaian handicrafts, kente cloth and souvenirs (entrance fee not included). If time permits, your guide will take you to the Makola market to experience the hustle and bustle and diversity of local products before returning to the starting point.
