Naples is a city in southern Italy renowned for its cultural, historical and artistic wealth. As well as being known as the ‘Pizza Capital of the World’ and for its music, it has been the birthplace of artistic movements such as the Renaissance and the Neapolitan Baroque.
This city has been occupied by the Greeks, Romans, Goths, Byzantines and the Spanish. Its underground world bears witness to the great number of peoples and civilisations that settled there. On the tour, you’ll see places such as the former larder of the Monastery of Santa Chiara and the ancient Greco-Roman theatre
The Bourbon Tunnel is also one of the most striking sites. It consists of approximately 530 gigantic passageways, caves and narrow sewers, characterised by the blue tiles that have retained their colour to this day. It is now known as the Bourbon Gallery. Underground Naples came back into fashion during the Second World War, as the cisterns and tunnels were used as safe havens and air-raid shelters.
