Step by Step

This guided tour of the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill is an invitation to travel to the centre of power in ancient Rome. For approximately 100 minutes, you will visit the places where ceremonies were held, political decisions were made, justice was dispensed and the gods who protected the city were worshipped.

The tour begins around the Arch of Constantine, one of the great symbols of imperial victory. From there, you will move on to the Roman Forum, a monumental space that for centuries was the true heart of Roman life. Among columns, temples and ancient roads, you will discover how the city grew to become the nucleus of one of the most powerful empires in history.

The guide will take you through some of Rome's most fascinating episodes: the vestal virgins and the sacred fire of the goddess Vesta, the trials and debates of the Basilica Julia, the political weight of the Senate House and the stories associated with the assassination and cremation of Julius Caesar. Each stop allows you to understand not only what is preserved, but also what happened there more than two thousand years ago.

Afterwards, you will climb the Palatine Hill, one of the seven hills of Rome and the place where tradition places the foundation of the city by Romulus. Over time, this hill became one of the most prestigious areas of ancient Rome, chosen by emperors and influential families to build their residences.

During the visit you will also see the Temple of Castor and Pollux and the Arch of Titus, linked to the sack of Jerusalem. At the end of the official tour, you will be able to stay in the Roman Forum area to continue exploring at your own pace and take a leisurely stroll through one of the most important archaeological sites in the world.

I felt like exploring more after the tour, and luckily we were able to do so. A good way to start in this area of Rome.

The part about the Basilica Giulia and the Roman trials was very curious. I had never thought of the Forum as being so alive.

I went with my mother and we liked it very much, although in some sections the ground was uncomfortable for her. Even so, we enjoyed it.
