Step by Step

Start your morning with a direct pick-up from the reception of your hotel or guesthouse in Luang Prabang. Your guide will meet you promptly in the morning, ready to drive you in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle to the base of operations. There you will receive a detailed explanation of elephant behaviour and communication before crossing the Nam Khan River in a typical long-tailed boat.

Arriving on the opposite bank, you will meet the elephants and their mahouts: we will provide you with bananas and sugar cane to feed these majestic animals and observe their expressions, sounds and social dynamics up close. This is the perfect time to photograph them and understand the importance of their ethical care.

You will start a 2.5km trek alongside the elephants on flat, shady trails through Laotian gardens and along the forested banks of the Huay Nok Stream. As you walk, your English-speaking guide will explain how they feed, communicate and what native plants form part of their diet and habitat.

After the walk, the elephants will receive their last morsels of fruit and sugar, and you will leave them in the company of their mahouts to return to the jungle. You will then return with your guide and enjoy a traditional Lao lunch, made mainly from the farm's own produce - authentic flavours that complete the experience.
