Step by Step

Penang Glass Museum stands as a true homage to glass, specialising in techniques such as fused glass, sandblasted glass, batik glass and creative glass art. In its permanent galleries, you'll see pieces ranging from sculptures and vases to jewellery and decorative objects, all made in situ and reflecting local and international expertise.

The tour begins with exhibitions tracing the evolution of glass: you will learn about ancient manufacturing techniques, applications in everyday life and the historical milestones that led glass to become an artistic medium. Next, you'll discover the Longest Batik Glass Mural, a work that combines tradition and modernity to tell stories of Malaysian culture.

The real hands-on experience takes place in the museum workshop: here you will receive all the materials you need to paint and personalise a glass bottle (included in your ticket). You'll be able to choose colours, patterns and even batik techniques, and take your piece home ready to use as soon as you've finished painting it.

In addition, the museum has in-house guides who will offer a brief explanation in English of each section, answer any questions you may have, and point out the best ways to capture photographs next to the stunning glass murals on the wall.

Finally, the space allows you to take as many photographs as you wish, with no time restrictions, to record your time in this unique collection of glass art.
