Experience Highlights

Photograph the endless contrasts of the Namib-Naukluft National Park on a private tour leaving Walvis Bay early in the morning to take advantage of the golden morning light. You'll travel by 4×4 over orange dunes, scree valleys and dry riverbeds where gazelles, oryx and jackals roam freely.

Your guide - a naturalist and photographer - patiently stops the vehicle to get the perfect frame: you'll have plenty of time to change lenses, adjust exposure and capture every silhouette against the horizon. At midday, a safari-style lunch with Namibian craft beer recharges your energy before continuing your search for unique scenes into the afternoon.

  • Book your private spot and avoid the rush or crowds.
  • Make the most of the ideal light with sunrise departures and flexible stops
  • Taste lunch and local beer included, just bring your camera

Step by Step

The adventure begins at dawn, when your guide picks you up at your accommodation in Walvis Bay. As the coastline disappears behind the dunes, the talk focuses on techniques for photographing wildlife in deserts: white compensation, using UV filters and reading the histogram in high-contrast scenes.

The first stop is at a high vantage point overlooking the ocean of reddish sand; it's time to adjust telephoto lenses to capture groups of oryx descending the dunes. With the sun still low, the elongated shadows draw perfect lines for dramatic compositions.

As the morning wears on, the 4×4 moves onto gravel plains where gazelles leap through bushes and jackals lurk in the distance. Thanks to the private format, you can tell the guide which species or scenery you prefer and he will adjust the route in real time.

Around midday, a picnic lunch is served: grilled chicken, fresh salad, traditional bread and cold Windhoek Lager. After a short break, the search for unique images continues in the soft afternoon light, as temperatures drop and the wildlife starts to move again.

The return to Walvis Bay coincides with the sun setting behind the dunes: a chromatic highlight to review on your camera screen the collection of snapshots that only wild Namibia can offer.
