Step by Step
As soon as you set sail, the captain directs the bow towards the Nazaré submarine canyon , a corridor of nutrient-rich waters that attracts several species of cetaceans all year round. As the waves smooth out to sea, your guide explains how this geological feature generates both the food for the dolphins and the record-breaking waves that have made Praia do Norte famous.
With your eyes on the sheet of water, you will soon make out the first blows and dorsal fins. As the dolphins approach, the boat slows down to respect their natural behaviour, giving you plenty of time to record synchronised jumps and swims from the open deck.
Back on shore, the tour skirts the bay of Nazaré; the view from the sea reveals the imposing promontory of Sítio and the whitewashed houses huddled together on the golden sand. The guide points out the most photogenic viewpoints and recounts the legends of the local fishermen who still shape the identity of this Atlantic port.
Throughout the crossing, the crew shares tips for minimising seasickness and tidbits about the seabirds that hover in the boat's wake. The family atmosphere and the team's passion for conservation make the excursion an educational and exciting experience in equal measure.
