Step by Step

Embark on a sweet and interactive experience in the heart of York. Upon arrival at 3-4 Kings Square, your professional guide will welcome you to begin a tour that mixes industrial archaeology, Victorian-era anecdotes and the evolution of the city's most influential chocolate families.

Climb the three floors of the museum-shop, where each room is filled with original artefacts: 19th century chocolate foundry tools, vintage packaging and documentaries about the transformation of cocoa into a delicacy. As you discover manufacturing secrets, you'll enjoy tastings ranging from creamy traditional bars to innovative artisanal creations.

In the hands-on part of the tour, you'll put on your apron and, guided by an expert chocolatier, you 'll form and decorate your own bar. This hands-on experience allows you to understand the entire process: tempering, moulding and packaging, before tasting your masterpiece.

Throughout the tour, your guide will reveal fascinating anecdotes - from how the iconic KitKat was born in York to tidbits about the marketing of Terry's Chocolate Orange. You'll finish in the shop and café, filled with handmade specialities, where you can buy souvenirs and enjoy hot cocoa-flavoured drinks.

York's Chocolate Story is more than a museum - it's an interactive tribute to the city's chocolate heritage, ideal for families, couples and chocolate lovers alike.

I was delighted to see how to get from the cocoa bean to the bar; everything well explained.

There was a good pace and I found the anecdotal part amusing; perhaps more tastings would have been ideal.

Good for a couple or friends who want a different kind of time; not too serious.
