Experience Highlights

Want to add some adrenaline to your winter getaway? Join this introductory ice climbing class at the Mont-Tremblant resort, where a 20-metre natural cliff becomes your vertical wall. The meeting point is the Tremblant Activity Centre, at the foot of the slopes, where you will be met with all the technical equipment.

The activity lasts about 3 hours, is designed for over 8 year olds and requires no previous experience: a certified guide (English/French) teaches you how to wield the ice axes, fit crampons and secure your companions. Places per shift are limited (max. 9 people), so you can progress at your own pace and capture spectacular photos from the icy summit.

  • Book your place and try an extreme sport with the family.
  • Climb safely: professional guide and approved equipment included.
  • Experience Mont-Tremblant beyond skiing without leaving the resort

What’s included

  • Full technical equipment: harness, helmet, crampons and ice axes.
  • Certified bilingual guide (English / French)
  • Step-by-step instruction and assurance throughout the session
  • Access to the private ice wall inside the resort

Step by Step

On arrival at the Tremblant Activity Centre, your instructor hands out harnesses, helmets, crampons and ice axes. After signing the waiver and adjusting your equipment, you walk just three minutes to the frozen waterfall that emerges between snow-covered pines. The first part is devoted to basic techniques on firm ground: how to stick the ice axe blade, foot position with crampons and the use of the belay system.

Once you've mastered the technique, the guide installs the stop-rope and you begin to ascend. Each ice axe strike produces a crisp crack and the wall reflects blue flashes; you will feel your arm working as the crampons bite into the ice. The altitude is gained inch by inch, but turn your head and you'll discover the reward: a white panoramic view of the resort and Lake Tremblant.

For the more intrepid, the instructor proposes variations with positive angles or side traverses that challenge your balance. Beginners repeat the main line as many times as they like: each climb builds confidence and technique. In between turns, you warm up with personalised advice, adjust your ice axe strap and discuss your feelings with the group.

The last part of the class deals with controlled abseiling and safety notions for future climbs. Back at the Activity Centre, you hand in your equipment and receive a brief sheet with recommendations for ice routes in the region and exercises to strengthen your forearms before your next adventure.
