Step by Step

The adventure starts at the foot of the slopes: your guide hands out snowshoes, poles and a thermos of hot cider before you set off on an undulating trail away from the hustle and bustle. Between snow-laden spruce trunks, you will learn to read the forest: scratches in the bark, fresh tracks in virgin powder and the silence broken by the occasional woodpecker.

After a short ascent, a natural balcony appears overlooking frozen Lake Tremblant and the peaks of the Laurentides. Here the guide pulls out flint and tinder to demonstrate how to light a small fire on the snow without leaving a trace; the crackling is mixed with tales of French ragpickers and Algonquin legends.

The way back runs through a sheltered valley where the trees filter the golden evening light. With every step, the snow crunches under your crampons, and your guide points out traces of flying squirrel or arctic hare. Back at the resort, your face bears the blush of the cold and the satisfaction of having experienced Mont-Tremblant beyond the ski slopes.
