The Willet-Holthuysen Museum is housed in a stately mansion on the Herengracht canal, originally built towards the end of the 17th century and renovated in classical French and neoclassical style. From the first floor to the attic, you will see perfectly preserved period rooms, where every object, every piece of furniture, every tapestry and every ornament contains stories of luxury, tradition and collecting.

The audio-guided tour will take you through the downstairs kitchen where the domestic staff worked; the French garden at the back, restored to its original composition; the elegant ballroom and the dining room with antique crockery complementing the setting. Upstairs, the studio, the bedrooms and the "blue room", spaces where the intimacy, style and artistic sensibility of the Willet-Holthuysens can be felt.

One of the greatest charms of the museum is to see how the original architectural elements - such as the staircases, large windows, decorative mouldings and ornate ceilings - are integrated with the collections of applied art: porcelain, glassware, silver, landscape paintings and portraits. Each room offers a different atmosphere and the audio guide helps you understand how these spaces were used, what social protocols were followed and what it meant to have a canal house at the time.

The garden, although not large, is a haven of peace. Designed in the French style, it offers a contrast to the bustling canals of the city.
